Washed versus Dry-cleaned?
The dry-cleaning process for clothing is much like laundering, except the washing machine uses volatile solvents (usually perchlorethylene) instead of water to dissolve and flush out the soil. What is Perchlorethylene? It is a chemical commonly known as “perc”, is toxic, and it can cause skin irritation, neurological effects dizziness, headache, sleepiness) and even cancer risk!
Biol versus Non-biological Washing powder?
Biological washing powder contains enzymes which help improve wash performance at lower temperatures. Enzymes break down stains, mainly protein, fats and starch ready for the other active ingredients to remove the dirt. On the other hand it can cause skin irritation (eczema) and is not environmentally friendly. Non-biological washing powder is a lot more environmentally friendly, it doesn’t contain skin irritating enzymes and is a lot gentler on colours. Not as effective on heavily soiled items, stains and whites.
